A series of pujas, including the parikara puja, were performed before the devotees were allowed into the temple.
The temple elephant, Masini, turned aggressive on Friday and had torn its mahout into pieces.
On Saturday morning, the temple priest had performed various puja including vaasthu puja, Ganapathi Homam and other rituals, before opening the temple for darshan. However, the devotees rush was less compared to the regular days. But, by afternoon the footfalls picked up.
According to sources, Masini is on complete rest in its shelter in Mahalikudi under the supervision of veterinarians and mahouts. Sources said that the jumbo now appears to have become normal.
