“We are mulling about cancelling the elephant rides at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), if the downpour continues. However, the rides were held until Wednesday and a final call would be taken based on further rain,” said a forest department staff.
Taking an elephant safari through the lush green jungles is a cherished experience for tourists visiting the hills.
Meanwhile, after a heavy downpour on Tuesday night, the residents of Nilgiris got a brief respite during the daytime on Wednesday though it started to pour again from the evening.
The rain resulted in the collapse of an under-construction two-storey building in Pandalur. Luckily, there was no one inside the building when the incident happened. There were also a few incidents of tree falls and landslips
in the hills.
