Following the incident, the state government had ordered permanent closure of Sterlite copper and the company was even sealed by the officials. Though the state government had met all the demands of the protesters and the kin of those who died in the firing, the protesters wanted to covert the building of Sterlite copper into a memorial.
Gunaseelan, an AAP functionary from Thoothukudi and a social activist, said that in the memorial, the details and the photos of the deceased along with the photos of the police firing should be exhibited to show how police opened fire without any threat from the protesters. Also, statues of the victims should be kept in the Sterlite premises, demanded Gunaseelan.
