Thoothukudi police firing: Vaiko seeks action against cops

MDMK general secretary Vaiko has demanded that the police officers responsible for the Thoothukudi police firing should be brought to book and DGP Rajendran should be removed from his post.

Citing the Vedanta Group’s contention that it would reopen the Sterlite Copper plant with the permission of the court, he warned that people themselves would gather to remove the factory. Citing the ransacking of the Sterlite factory at Rathinagiri in Maharashtra by the locals, he said the people would not allow Sterlite to function in Tamil Nadu.

He said the AIADMK government is responsible for the death of people due to the poisonous factory. Agriculture has been ruined, environment degraded due to the dumping of waste and air has been polluted due to the spread of sulphuric acid, he said and added that the ruling party should take responsibility for all these consequences.
