Medicos strike as man maligns Tiruvannamalai lady doc on FB

Medicos attached to the outpatients’ wing of the Tiruvannamalai government hospital here on Thursday held a strike demanding the arrest of the persons who aided the husband of a former patient in spreading inappropriate messages about a lady doctor.

Tiruvannamalai had brought his pregnant wife Jothi for an abortion to the hospital. He demanded abortion of his wife saying that they already have two children.

A lady doctor refused to conduct the abortion citing that it is not permissible under the law. The refusal angered Vijayakumar, who picked a quarrel with the doctor.

Thereafter, an enraged Vijayakumar started taking pictures of the lady doctor on his mobile phone and allegedly had spread malicious content about her on Facebook. The doctor complained to Tiruvannamalai east police who arrested Vijaykumar on Thursday.

Meanwhile, doctors in the outpatient department struck work demanding the arrest of some more persons in this connection. The affected public staged a demonstration in front of the outpatient block following which hospital officials rushed to the spot and held parleys with both, public and the striking doctors.

The public gave up their agitation when hospital dean Dr Natarajan intervened. Similarly, the striking doctors also returned to work following the dean’s assurances.
