Electricity Minister P Thangamani made this disclosure in the Assembly on Friday when the DMK MLA KPP Samy (Tiruvottiyur) complained of a load shedding between 9 am and 5 pm in his constituency.

Samy said that he was getting calls on Thursday from the residents of his constituency and sought to know the reason behind that. “We need copper to be used in transformers.

Since the closure of the Sterlite plant, we have been looking to purchase copper from other sources,” he said.

He added that the situation would improve soon after the state purchases copper.
