The revelation made to the Justice A Arumughasamy Commission, the one man enquiry panel probing the death of former chief minister Jayalalithaa, caused a furore as she was a chronic diabetic.
Dhinakaran said that Jayalalithaa had consumed sweets and even ice cream too to celebrate the victory of her party the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in three seats in the by-elections held at that time.
Nurse Renuka, who cared for Jayalalithaa, is said to have told the commission that Jayalalithaa had consumed home-made badam halwa on November 27, 2016.
Reports that came to light earlier showed that Jayalalithaa was allowed to consume sweets during her hospitalisation.
This detail was present in the logs submitted by Apollo Hospitals where it shows that Jayalalithaa had eaten sweets like Gulab Jamun, Laddoo and Rasgulla on November 22, 2016. On December 2 and 3, she is said to have had banana, strawberry and apple milkshake.
When the Commission released the diet and medical chart of the former chief minister submitted by her personal physician Dr KS Sivakumar, there was much debate over the nutritional value of the items on the list.
The revelation that she consumed sweets despite being a chronic diabetic and the confirmation by Dhinakaran raises many an eyebrows on the care provided to her.
