BSNL staff held for sexually assaulting girl

U Manikandan (24) of Puliyampettai near Tiruvidaimarudur, a BE graduate, has been working in a BSNL office near Kumbakonam on temporary basis.

Around 7 pm on Sunday, a nine-year-old local girl had come to the BSNL office with a mobile phone that her mother had sent for repairing.

Manikandan allegedly sexually assaulted the girl when she approached him to get the mobile phone repaired.

The girl returned to her house and narrated the entire incident to her mother. Following this, her mother lodged a complaint with the Kumbakonam all-women police station.

Acting on the complaint, Inspector Durga on Monday registered a case against Manikandan under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was subsequently arrested by the police.
