Makkal Needhi Maiam brought up the issue of excavations at archaeological sites of Keezhadi and Adichanallur whether they were being handled properly. The issue of thousands of stolen idols on the watch of the HR and CE department and pinning accountability for the same was also raised.
The party wanted to know if there was a plan in place for recovery of the stolen idols. To the department of youth welfare and sports, the party raised the issue of lack of jobs for youth and inadequate skilling.
Pointing out that over the last seven years only four lakh youth have been skilled out of which only one lakh secured employment, it wondered if the youth power of the state was being wasted.
The questions also pertained to the lack of sporting infrastructure in the state that has led to widespread obesity. The party also requested to know if the government had taken any steps to promote traditional sports like Jallikattu and Silambattam and also the state of Kabaddi.
The 63-year-old has been raising questions to the state government during the debates in demand for grants by various departments in the Assembly session that is scheduled until July 9.
Kamal’s party has stated that the questions being raised were based on extensive internal research and inputs received from its members through the organ’s whistle blower app, Maiam Whistle.
