Famously called the ‘Spa of South India’, Courtallam attracts a large number of tourists during the peak season which commences with the onset of southwest monsoon in Kerala. Though there are many waterfalls in Courtallam, the Main Falls, the Old Falls, the Tiger Falls and the Five Falls attract the maximum number of tourists.

However, every year during the peak season, tourists complain about absence of basic amenities and demand that the authorities provide facility for changing clothes, drinking water as well as proper parking and lights.

To take immediate action on the complaints, Shilpa Prabhakar Satish carried out the inspection by visiting all the important falls in Courtallam. She checked if the facility to change clothes and toilets were available. During the inspection at Old Falls and Tiger Falls, she found that there was no proper drinking water available for the tourists and ordered the officials to set up a water tank. When she checked the main falls and the Five Falls she came to know that there were encroachments in the land allotted for parking vehicles and immediately ordered that they be removed.

She also directed the officials to check if the lights work properly.

She directed officials to ensure that the ban on using oil and plastics is strictly implemented. Addressing the media she said that a parking facility would be set up at Old Courtallam Falls on 2.5 acres.
