Southern Railway (SR) has announced the temporary rescheduling of 92 trains, barely a month since scores of trains suffered inordinate delay due to remodelling of the yard in Arakkonam junction.

The announcement made on Friday said the trains would be ‘re-timed’ with retrospective effect from June 13. Although SR has not announced the list of trains that have been rescheduled, an official statement said those trains are operated from Trivandrum, Palakkad, Salem and Chennai.
Most of the trains would suffer a delay or advancement by 30 minutes, while a few would be ‘rationalised’ between 45 minutes and an hour. The decision was made owing to the ongoing extensive rail safety track works in the zone, which have been delaying trains daily.
However, it is yet unclear how long the rescheduling of trains would continue. SR had drawn flak from passengers a month ago after it announced unplanned train cancellations and rescheduled trains, mainly in the first week of May, when thousands of passengers aboard trains regulated and short terminated in remote locations suffered without adequate food and water. SR had handled the situation by accepting help from private parties.
