Vedanta causes enough destruction: Activists
There was a wrong notion that development would be affected once the Sterlite factory was closed. However, the truth was that Sterlite had caused enough destruction and, therefore, it was only destruction and not development, said activists attached to various organisations, at Thoothukudi on Monday.

Thoothukudi
As many as 17 members from Coordination of Democratic Rights Organisation (CDRO) and Woman against Sexual Violence and State Repression (WSS) visited Thoothukudi for three days, from June 16 to 18 as part of a fact-finding mission following the May 22 firing incident. The team visited the kin of the deceased, injured persons and residents of the villages located in proximity to the copper smelting unit.
In an interim report, the members of the fact-finding mission said that they met families of six persons killed in the police firing and it was found that three of them were victims of targeted killings. The DGP should be held responsible for the killings of all the 13 people, said the activists.
They also said that according to the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, development means super profit for the corporates whereas it was death, destruction and diseases for the poor. Similarly, there was another wrong notion that closure of Sterlite would affect development projects in the State. But it was not true as Sterlite was nothing but destruction, said the activists.
