“MDMK is not against growth, but growth for whom,” Vaiko asked and alleged that the state and the central governments were trying to help the Corporates, who want to plunder the mineral wealth from the mountain ranges in Salem Tiruvannamalai and Dharmapuri and carry them to Chennai harbour.

Demanding the release of actor Mansur Ali Khan, activist Piyush Manush and student Valarmathi, arrested for raising voice against the project, he said arresting and threatening people, especially elders and women, was condemnable.

Dhinakaran said the government should change its attitude of suppressing people’s protests and rather understand their feelings and the reasons for their opposition. He urged the government to lay the roads in alternative routes without disturbing the nature.

Meanwhile, the DMK has announced an agitation in front of Salem district Collectorate on Saturday condemning the police oppression against the people opposing the project.

The agitation would be held in front of the Collectorate under the leadership of party deputy general secretary Subbulakshmi Jagadeeshan.
