The one-man enquiry commission’s term was to end on June 24. Justice A Arumughasamy wrote to the state government seeking a six-month extension, but the state government has granted an additional four months only to complete the investigation.
Jayalalithaa spent 75 days at the hospital following her admission on September 22, 2016, after taking ill at her residence in Poes Garden. She passed away on December 5, 2016.
After prolonged furore surrounding the secrecy with which her hospitalisation was treated, the government formed the one-man enquiry commission to investigate the facts of the matter.
The enquiry commission was instituted on September 24, 2017 and was originally due to submit its final report on December 24, 2017. Since then, extensions have been awarded twice.
Meanwhile, physician Sivakumar has been sent summons for June 25. Apollo Hospitals doctor Nalini and Nurse Prema are also set to depose on June 25. Doctors of Apollo Hospitals Jayshree Gopal, Shantaram and Ramachandran, former manager of Indian Overseas Bank Stella Maris College Branch Mahalakshmi and IAS officer Ramalingam have been sent summons to appear on June 27. IG KN Sathyamurthy and Editor of Tughlak magazine S Gurumurthy are due to appear before the commission on June 28. Over 50 individuals have deposed before the commission so far.
