Sivamurthi’s father Chinnasamy had lodged a missing complaint with the Tirupur North police after he failed to return home on Monday. His mobile number too remained switched off raising suspicion among his family members. Sivamurthi is the son-in-law of Chidambaram’s sister-in-law.
Following the complaint, special teams of police traced the luxury vehicle of Sivamurthi fitted with a GPS device to Ambur in Vellore district late Tuesday night.
Upon being alerted, the local police immediately went to the spot. They found three persons, identified as S Manibharathi (22), S Gautaman (22) and K Vimal (35), all natives of Coimbatore, inside the car.
On questioning, the trio confessed to have killed Sivamurthi on the same day of his abduction. They said they had carried Sivamurthi’s body in the car, before dumping it in the Kelevarapalli dam.
Police said the culprits had wrapped the body of the deceased with a bed spread, taped his face and threw it into the dam. A heavy stone was tied to the body to prevent it from floating on the water surface.
After a three-hour-long search, the police retrieved the body of Sivamurthi from the dam on Wednesday. His body was sent to Hosur Government Hospital for a post-mortem.
Preliminary inquiries by Tirupur police revealed that Sivamurthi was murdered for ransom. However, they are investigating further to find if there were other reasons. One more accused Murthy (37) was picked up later from Coimbatore.
Police said Vimal, a textile trader, knew Sivamurthi and had invited him for a meeting of possible clients. He then executed the murder along with three others.
The deceased is survived by his wife Durga Vaishnavi and two children.
