PMK founder S Ramadoss, in a statement, said, “It is shocking that the EPS-led government has resorted to such unwanted act. Around 1.25 lakh police personnel have been working in the Tamil Nadu Police Department, which has decided to conduct a blood donation camp in their respective districts.

Further, the Chief Minister is to kick off the campaign on June 29,” he said, adding that since Chief Minister is to preside over the blood donation, around 50 per cent staff is expected to donate blood.

Stating that top officials force the police personnel under 40 to donate blood, Ramadoss said, “It is reported that even though police officials, who are willing to donate blood, can do so, the higher-ups in many districts reportedly threaten policemen to donate blood compulsorily.” He further said, “The fact remains that blood donation is a welcome move.

Even Tamil Nadu stands first in terms of blood donation. However, no one can force anyone to donate blood.”

Ramadoss also raised doubts over the safe storage and use of the donated blood given the volume expected to be collected from nearly 60,000 police personnel. Ramadoss hinted that if the state government was keen to receive blood in large quantity, there were so many ways.

“The government can conduct awareness campaign on blood donation so that more donors come forward. However, such type of mass blood donation camp should be avoided,” he added.
