The draft list of polling booths was released on Monday by SA Raman and KS Kandasamy, Collectors of Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts respectively, in the presence of representatives of recognised political parties.
Earlier, there was 3,439 polling booths covering 13 assembly constituencies in Vellore district. After the reorganisation process, 18 new booths, including 2 in urban areas and 16 in rural areas, were created.
Four booths in urban areas and three in rural areas which did not have enough voters were merged with the nearest polling booth, resulting in a final tally of 3,450 booths in Vellore district.
Similarly, the 8 assembly constituencies in Tiruvannamalai district was earlier covered by 2,325 polling booths. After the reorganisation, the count has increased to 2,372 booths with the addition of 47 new ones.
As EC rules stipulate that voters should have access to a polling booth within 2 kilometres of their residence, Collector Kandasamy said the public may contact district election officials if their nearest polling booth is not within the stipulated distance on or before July 10.
