7 kg gold seized at Tiruchy in 3 months

As much as 7 kg of gold has been seized at the Tiruchy international airport in the past three months. However, officials said they are committed to curb the menace.

Gold is smuggled in huge quantities via the Tiruchy international airport, which is right next to the Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai airports. On an average, at least 2 kg gold has been seized per month from April to June, besides currencies, electronic gadgets and even drugs.

As many as 25 cases of smuggling cases were registered in April and gold worth Rs 2.1 crore was seized. In May, 30 cases were registered and gold worth Rs 1.7 crore was seized. In June, as many as 28 cases were registered and gold worth Rs 2.9 crore was seized.
