Dhanapal surrenders in court

Former commissioner of HR and CE department P Dhanapal, an accused in the Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy temple idol case, surrendered before a court in Kumbakonam on Friday. The court has ordered him not to move out of the town for 60 days.

P Dhanapal was one of those booked by the Idol wing CID of Tamil Nadu police for irregularities in designing an idol for the temple in Palani.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, which granted Dhanapal advance bail on June 21, directed him to surrender his passport and stay in Kumbakonam for 60 days from the date of surrender.

Accordingly, on Friday, Dhanapal surrendered before the Kumbakonam court. He furnished the information about the place where he would be staying during the period. He was allowed to use his mobile phone with the permission of the Idol wing police. Later, accompanied by police personnel, he proceeded to a lodge in Mutt Street in Kumbakonam, where he would be staying.
