Kovai girl death: Parents seek action against college for negligence
Inconsolable after the death of their daughter following the ill-organised mock disaster response drill that went wrong, the parents of the 19-year-old girl sought action against the private college for its alleged negligence that resulted in the death. Her death has shattered the family, who had placed all their hopes on Logeshwari, who was to be the first graduate from the farmer’s family.

“The college has not given us any explanation about the incident. We came to know only after a parent of my sister’s friend called to inform us about the tragedy. As we were told that Logeswari was admitted in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, we rushed to the hospital only to learn that she is no more,” said Selvakumar (22), the girl’s brother. Selvakumar charged that the college hasn’t given them an explanation about the incident even a day after the tragedy.
“We sent her to college thinking that it is a safe place and education would help her reach great heights. Unfortunately, she met her end in the college solely due to the negligence of the management,” he alleged.
“At least now the government should take precautionary measures to prevent any more life loss,” said Selvakumar. “Usually my daughter would return home from college by 4 pm. On Thursday, my son came crying, following a phone call that informed him about the shocking news. We rushed to CMCH with a hope to see our daughter, but got to see her only as dead,” said her father Nalla Gounder. With tears rolling down, Gounder said that the college did not even care to even inform them about the incident.
“Stern action should be taken against all those responsible for the death of my daughter,” he demanded. The college had declared a holiday on Friday following the death of the girl. A pall of gloom descended at the CMCH, where a large number of students and family members of the deceased girl had gathered.
