TN CM Edappadi K Palaniswami announces slew of road projects for Madurai city
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami laid the foundation stone for construction of a four-way high level bridge at Kalavasal junction in Madurai on Sunday in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.

The project designed to be completed in 15 months at 750 metres length will take off at a cost of Rs 54.07 crore through the Department of Highways and Minor Ports under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme.
It was aimed at easing vehicular congestion and commuters need not wait for longtime at the traffic signal.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister made a slew of announcements about the upcoming road infrastructure development projects for the benefit of people in Madurai. The Arasaradi junction and Goripalayam junction, which are located at the heart of the city, would also have road infrastructure developments to decongest traffic. The officials concerned had been instructed to conduct resurvey on lanes leading to heavy traffic at Goripalayam and take up road laying works accordingly.
Much to the delight of commuters, a four-way road link from the MGR bus stand, which was formerly known as Mattuthavani, to Koodalnagar radio station, would be established jointly by the Highways Department and Madurai Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore. Moreover, administrative sanctions were approved for setting up road over bridges at Madurai-Thondi Road near Pandikovil, Madurai ring road junction at an estimated cost of Rs 56 crore and road link between Kurivikaran Salai and Annanagar Bridgeway at Rs 16.35 crore.
To reduce the risk of accident at service road along rail overbridge at Sellur, a new service road to link Soolamangalam Road would be laid at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore as announced in the Assembly session. The project would commence soon, he said.
The Chief Minister said, to prevent water pollution in the Vaigai River, treatment plants would be established. The water course was subjected to pollution problems due to sewage spills. With this facility, the wastewater would be treated to remove pollutants before letting into the river Palaniswami added.
Citing all these development projects, the Chief Minister said ‘Amma’ rule is committed to fulfilling long term demands of people in Madurai. All departments including education, agriculture, highways and PWD have been at the forefront of development in Tamil Nadu, he said.
Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar, Cooperation Minister Sellur K Raju, Forest Minister Dindigul C Sreenivasan, former Mayor VV Rajan Chellappa and others were present on the occasion. Earlier, Collector K Veera Raghava Rao welcomed the gathering.
