Building tragedy: Government to pay for treatment of injured
Expressing condolence for the death of Bihar labourer, Babloo (23), in the building collapse at Kandanchavadi, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, on Sunday, ordered disbursal of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the labourer.

In a statement, Palaniswami said that he was shocked to hear the news of collapse of the building at Kandanchavadi and had immediately directed the officials of Revenue, Health, Police and Fire and Rescue department to rush to the spot.
Based on his orders, seven fire tenders and six ambulances rushed to the spot and rescued the labourers trapped under the debris. However, unfortunately Babloo died in the incident and Rs 5 lakh would be given for the grieving family from the Labour Welfare Board fund, stated Palaniswami.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister C Vijaya Baskar, who visited the spot where the building collapsed, carried out investigation at the spot and also met the injured admitted in the Royapettah Government Hospital and in a private hospital in Kandanchavadi. Addressing reporters, Vijaya Baskar said that out of 33 injured, one had died and five labourers, who had sustained minor injuries, were treated as outpatients.
Of the remaining 27 patients, 16 were admitted to a private hospital in Kandanchavadi and 11 were admitted to the Royapettah GH.
He also said that out of the 27 injured three are critical and surgery was performed for all the three. Also, the cost of the treatment for the 16 labourers admitted to the private hospital would be borne by the state government.
He further said that he had directed the Kancheepuram district administration to carry out a detailed investigation of the incident and to find out if there are any violations in the construction of the building, said Vijaya Baskar.
Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department J Radhakrishnan too visited the spot and carried out investigations.

Expressing deep anguish and sorrow over the death of Madesh, the CM announced a solatium of Rs 4 lakh to his family through the forest department and also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
