Truckers fight with police near Kovilpatti

A section of truckers were involved in a fight with the police, near Kovilpatti, in Thoothukudi district, on Sunday, when the truckers were involved in forcing other lorries to take part in the ongoing strike.

A section of members attached to the Tamil Nadu Lorry Owners Federation stopped lorries plying in the National Highways and asked them to participate in the nationwide protest. They also pasted their demands on the lorries.

While they were indulged in pasting the notices, police attached to the highway patrol reached the spot and prevented the members of the association from sticking any notice further. When the lorry owners association protested, there was verbal duel between the lorry owners and the policemen. 

However, policemen stated that they do not have permission for protesting or pasting the notices and warned if they continue the same they will be arrested.

Following that the lorry owners, while addressing the media, said that they are striking for the welfare of the entire nation as their demands are genuine, but the policemen had threatened them. However, they will continue their strike, said the lorry owners.
