Christy Friedgram, SPK heads appear before tax men

TS Kumaraswamy of Christy Friedgram Industry and S Nagarajan of SPK Group, heads of two firms that came under Income Tax Department scanner in the last one month, on Monday appeared before the tax investigators in the city.

“Kumaraswamy was questioned for three hours while Nagarajan was grilled for six hours,” Income Tax sources said. It may be noted that raids and searches at the premises of Christy Friedgram Industry, supplying egg and pulses for noon meal scheme at government schools in the state and the company’s business partners’ premises had led to detection of tax evasion to the tune of Rs 1,350 crore.
Taxmen had also questioned the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation’s Managing Director M Sudha Devi in connection with the raids at premises of Christy Industry. During the raids, they had seized Rs 17 crore cash, 10 kg gold and property documents besides over one hundred flash drives and hard drives.
In the case of SPK group, a road contract firm patronaged by AIADMK bigwigs, has admitted to having a total undisclosed income of Rs 450 crore. I-T officials said that a total of Rs 182.99 crore cash was seized from various places linked to SPK group during the raids along with 101 kg of pure gold biscuits and two kg of gold jewellery.
It is believed that SPK Group’s S Nagarajan was jointly doing business with father-in- law of son of chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami, who handles the Highway Department portfolio.
