Manohar is said to have informed the commission that Jayalalithaa’s health had been very poor right from the time she was admitted to the hospital on September 22, 2016.

The former AIADMK supremo was put on ventilator on September 28, 2016. Her chances of survival without the ventilator was minimal, he said. There have been several questions regarding Jayalalithaa’s diet during her hospitalisation with records from Apollo hospitals revealing that she had consumed sweets and ice cream during her stay even though she was a chronic diabetic patient. When asked if someone who had undergone a respiratory surgery and was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) could consume ice cream, Dr Babu is reported to have said that the doctors in-charge in the ICU should answer the question.

Sources said that the enquiry commission has determined that the food consumed by Jayalalithaa was not suitable for  someone with her medical condition. Jayalalithaa spent 75 days at the hospital following her admission after taking ill at her residence in Poes Garden. She passed away on December 5, 2016.
