Turtles found in cargo from Sri Lanka recovered at Tiruchy airport
The customs officials during the inspection at Tiruchy International Airport on Wednesday came across on an abandoned box of foreign species turtles.

It was said, a box weighing more than 20 kg was suspected to be abandoned by someone who came by Sri Lankan airlines flight at 8:40 am. Sources confirmed that officials have started the inspection of the CCTV visuals of the airport. Meanwhile, the top officials denied commenting on this incident.
According to the sources, the foreign species turtles are under the custody of the Forest Department. These turtles are usually smuggled to Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand. The people in these countries believe that keeping these species of turtle at home would bring luck to them. Unfortunately, this superstition has resulted in the illegal trade of these reptiles, officials from the Forest Department said.
