Traffic cops involved in checking vehicles intercepted J Sudharsun, a private firm employee, near Kalveerampalayam on the outskirts of Coimbatore on Friday.
He was found to be driving his two-wheeler under the influence of alcohol. When questioned, Sudharsun broke into an argument with the cops and threatened them with dire consequences. He dared them to act against him, claiming that his uncle was a judge.
As a large crowd gathered at the spot, the traffic cops informed the law and order police in Rathinapuri station, who took Sudharsun into custody. The entire episode, captured by a member of the public, on a mobile phone, went viral on social media.
The Rathinapuri police booked Sudharsun under various provisions of IPC, including 294 (b) for uttering obscene words in public place, 353 for using force to deter public servant from discharging duty, 506 (ii) for criminal intimidation and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Meanwhile, a video of Sudharsun regretting his behaviour and apologising has surfaced in the social media. He is heard saying that the police have a rigorous job and they work round the clock braving sun and rain. “The work of police should be appreciated, and people should avoid driving if they are drunk. I apologise for my act,” he said.
