On a four day visit to the district to inaugurate a slew of welfare projects, the Chief Minister, however, cancelled the events, scheduled for Monday and is heading to Chennai.
He was scheduled to throw open nine green space parks developed by the Salem Corporation at a total cost of Rs 4.11 crore on Monday.
However, the Chief Minister left Salem by road to Coimbatore after inaugurating the government exhibition at Bose Maidan. The CM would take a flight from Coimbatore international airport at 11.45 pm. He is likely to make a visit to the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai, where DMK leader Karunanidhi has been hospitalised in a critical condition.
Speaking to media after inaugurating the government exhibition in Salem, the Chief Minister said that the AIADMK government has been doing well in all aspects.
“The government has been criticized by some for selfish reasons and to gain political mileage. Various projects are being implemented for the welfare of the people in Tamil Nadu. The welfare schemes couldn’t be faulted and the government has been targeted only for political reasons,” he said. The Chief Minister also gave away various welfare assistances to the tune of Rs 18.32 crore to 3,504 beneficiaries.
