Acting on a tip off, the sleuths keeping vigil at the airport noticed a few ground handling staff sneaking out carrying a few packages. They were found handing over the packages to three persons, who had arrived from Kuala Lumpur by a Malindo Air flight. Thereafter, the sleuths caught them red-handed.
Three of the ground handling employees were identified as Mohammed Sherif (22) of Pudukkottai, Pradeep Savariraj (20) of Pattukottai and Mahimai Prabhu (23) of Theni. The passengers had reportedly left the gold, weighing 6.3 kg, inside the aircraft and were waiting outside.
Thereafter, the three accused passengers were secured by the DRI sleuths and the airport staff were sent to the court, where they were remanded to 14 days’ custody.
