Speaking in Mumbai, while promoting his upcoming movie Vishwaroopam 2, Kamal said that comparisons between him and Rajinikanth, who has also entered politics, was unfair as each was his own person with their own beliefs.

On the question of forging a political alliance with Rajinikanth, Kamal said that he had made his stance on various issues transparent and choosing an ally if the time comes would be based on the compatibility on various key questions that will impact Tamil Nadu.

He admitted that at this point, both of them don’t know if they would work together in politics. Kamal said that he had been nursing a desire to enter politics ever since his movie Hey Ram released in 2000.

He added that he didn’t feel that his political career was a result of opportunism, but more of a culmination of the events in his life thus far.

Kamal said that he had questioned himself during the course of this move severak times but felt that it was his duty to the society. He said that he could only effect so much change in his personal capacity, but wanted to work for the larger good of the people and eradicate corruption and paralysis that is plaguing Tamil Nadu politics.

He said that the people have stood by him at all times and he would like to find a way to repay it. He refuted allegations that he waited for the right time to enter politics, saying that he made his entry as he had good foresight and intention to work for the people. Kamal also expressed his desire to enact a robust Lok Ayukta in the State.
