Bose was elected in a by-poll to the Tiruparankundram Assembly constituency in Madurai district held during former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s hospitalisation before her demise.
The relatives of the deceased MLA and scores of party cadre converged at his residence to mourn his death. According to party sources, Bose was a threetime MLA, who represented the AIADMK and contested from Tiruparankundram constituency twice and from Madurai North constituency. He won from the Tiruparankundram constituency in 2006 and in the next Assembly election from Madurai North constituency during 2011. However, in the subsequent phase of Assembly election in 2016, Bose was not given a seat by the party to contest from Tiruparankundram constituency. SM Seenivel, who was fielded by the party instead, emerged victorious from the same constituency. But, it was unfortunate for Seenivel, who died of ill-health just on the day when votes were counted. Bose got yet another opportunity to represent the constituency in the by-poll, which was necessitated following death of Seenivel.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami along with Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and Ministers of various portfolios placed wreaths on the body and consoled the bereaved family. The Chief Minister and his Deputy reached Bose’s residence around 1.30 pm and spent nearly thirty minutes with the grief stricken family. Later, talking to reporters, the Chief Minister regretted his demise and said Bose was associated with the AIADMK since its inception by founder and former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran and remained loyal to the party. He also continued his loyalty and maintained a respectable reputation during the period when former chief minister Jayalalithaa came to power. During her tenure, Jayalalithaa took pride and said Bose worked hard and contributed much to the party from various positions. Panneerselvam said his death has caused an irreparable loss to the party.
Earlier, Madurai Collector K Veera Raghava Rao, Commissioner of Police, Madurai City, S Davidson Devasirvatham and officials from various departments paid homage, sources said.
