The SC committee, led by Gulshan Raj, Chief Secretary of Central Water Commission, comprised Prabhakaran, Additional Secretary, Public Works Department, Tamil Nadu and Tinku Biswal, Secretary, Kerala Irrigation Department. After inspecting the dam, the Chief Secretary said it was safe and strong. The early onset of the southwest monsoon, which has been intensified of late, brought copious amounts of water in the dam.
He said, the main dam, baby dam, shutters of 13 vents and seepage points had been inspected by the team. Both the states, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, were keenly involved in strengthening the maintenance works of the dam. Currently, the water level in the dam stands at 134.25 feet with an inflow of 1,133 cusecs and discharge of 2,100 cusecs and the seepage level from the dam is at permissible limits.
