DMK chief M Karunanidhi's mortal remains reaches Gopalapuram residence

Karunanidhi's body will be kept at Rajaji hall for public homage from 4 am.

Mortal remains of M Karunanidhi arrived from the hospital to Gopalapuram residence

Chennai

Former TN Chief Minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi passed away at the age of 94 after being under observation for the past 11 days. Kauvery hospital announced his demise in a press release today.

The release said that the former CM passed away at 6:10 pm on Tuesday. 

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the Gopalapuram residence and paid respect to the fallen chief. She also met DMK working president MK Stalin and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.

Later, actor turned politician Rajinikanth arrived at Gopalapuram residence to pay obeisance.

Karunanidhi's body will be kept at Rajaji hall for public homage from 4 am. 

Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy will come to Chennai to pay tribute to the DMK leader tomorrow at 11:30 am in Rajaji hall.

PM Narendra Modi is also said to travel to Chennai to pay his last respects to M Karunanidhi 

The ruling AIADMK government turned down the request from DMK to bury the leader next to the grave of his mentor and DMK party founder CN Annadurai in Marina Beach. Soon after the request was denied, protests erupted across Chennai with DMK party cadres demanding that their late leader be buried at Anna Memorial in Marina Beach.
