TNEA 2018: Over 18,500 get provisional allotment

Over 18,500 students were given provisional admissions in engineering courses in the colleges in Tamil Nadu after the completion of the two rounds of online counselling. Meanwhile, the third phase of online counselling began on Monday.

Moreover, the state government has ordered the colleges to open for new admissions on September 1.

A total of 29,249 eligible students who secured marks from 175 to 190 had participated in the two rounds of online counselling, which was also held at the Anna University campus and in facilitation centres across the state.

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission 2018 (TNEA) secretary Dr V Rhyment Uthariaraj on Monday said of the total eligible candidates, only 21,000 students have made the payment.

He said that provisional allotment of seats was given to as many as 18,974 candidates according to their choice of the course and college.

Uthariaraj added that students who have secured marks up to 150 were participating in the third round of the online counselling. The provisional allotment will be made available for the third batch will be on August 9, the TNEA secretary added.

Students who secured up to 125 cut off marks, will attend the counselling from August 9, the official said, adding that the tentative allotment for the third batch of students will be made on August 20.

All the remaining eligible candidates will be attending the final round of the online counselling from August 14. The tentative allotment for the last batch of candidates will be announced on August 24.

Anna University sources said that most of the students who got the provisional allotment preferred either Computer Science or Electronic and Communication courses.

As the provisional allotment for the remaining candidates will be over on August 24, the Higher Education Department has issued orders that the college for the new admissions should be opened on September 1.
