Lakhs of commercial vehicles including private buses, taxis, school vans will remain off road on Tuesday as the All India Motor transport Organisation declared a one-day strike.

The strike comes as a protest against the central government after the centre announced their plan to monopolise the motor vehicle industry. The association has demanded the withdrawal of the proposal.

Many automobile showrooms and driving schools also took part in the protest. various unions have announced that they will conduct a dharna in Anna Salai.

K Arumuga Nainar, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Transport Employees Federation, said that the Amendment Bill was previously introduced in Lok Sabha and the central government is trying to introduce it in the Rajya Sabha. If the Bill introduced, the entire motor industry would be affected as the Bill aims at complete privatisation of the industry, he said.
