Police station besieged seeking arrest of Pappal
Tension prevailed in Tirupur as more than 200 persons, including caste Hindu parents of children studying in a government school at Thirumalaikavundanpalayam, gheraoed the Sevur police station on Thursday demanding the arrest of Dalit cook after students fell ill as there was lizard in the noon meal cooked by her.

As many as ten children, who had the noon meal on July 7 suffered from bouts of vomiting and were taken to Avinashi Government Hospital for treatment. Based on a complaint by the school head mistress Sasikala, the Sevur police registered a case against cook Pappal (42) and her assistant Malliga, 45.
Meanwhile villagers from Thirumalaikavundanpalayam ghearaoed the police station demanding the arrest of the cook. Police held talks with the villagers and promised action after an enquiry into the incident. A doctor’s team visited the school and examined a group of students, who complained of stomach pain, on Thursday. The doctors however said that the students had skipped their breakfast, which could have caused pain in their stomach.
Following a spate of controversies, around seven students had their noon meal at the school, on Thursday. The Dalit cook blamed the school head mistress of trying to frame her in a false case by joining hands with caste Hindus. The school has been in the news for quite some time as caste Hindu parents were opposed to their children having food cooked by a Dalit.
