108 ambulance service in Vellore handled more calls in July

The ‘108’ ambulance service in Vellore district has catered to more patients in July compared to June this year. While a total of 5,580 calls were received in June, ambulance officials handled 5,997 calls in July.

According to sources, 52 ambulances are parked at various vantage points in Vellore district to attend to emergency calls.

Responding to incidents of road accidents, heart attacks, snake bites and other emergencies, the service handled 2,924 calls in June and 3,129 calls in July.

Road accidents resulted in 980 calls being made in June and 1,023 calls in July, sources said. The ambulance service responded to 962 calls related to child birth and shifting of full-term pregnant women to hospital in July. In comparison, it handled 815 calls in June.

In what may come as a pleasant news for State health officials, all callers related to child birth preferred to be taken to government hospitals for deliveries, sources said.
