Police said R Thamba Karthi (24) of Santhankadu was facing several cases including for murder. The incident happened on Monday night, when Karthi along with his friend Daniel went to MN Thottam in Nariyampalayam in a bike and entered an altercation with a resident of the area. Irked by their behaviour, K Ramachandran, who lived nearby, came out of his house and reprimanded Karthi and his friend. Following this, the duo reportedly warned Ramachandran that he would face some consequences and left the spot.

Later they came back with some of their aides and argued with Ramachandran, who was joined by other residents of the neighbourhood. The residents attacked Karthi, Daniel and their associates with sharp weapons. Karthi was grievously injured in the attack and later succumbed to his injuries. Daniel is currently under treatment at a hospital. Other associates of Karthi managed to escape.

Based on a complaint by C Rajasekaran, the father of the deceased, the Pattukkottai police on Tuesday registered a case of murder. They are on the lookout for Ramachandran, Annadurai, A Rameshkanth, K Muthukrishnan and a few others, all belonging to Nariyampalayam.
