7 killed in road mishaps across TN

Four persons died, and three others suffered injuries after a speeding car hit a mini truck, in Tirupur on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as S Jagannathan (33), and his friends, K Munis (23), K Praveen (26), and S Subbu (47), all from Tirupur.

“They were returning to Tirupur after attending a marriage function in Erode. Near Netichipalayam ‘pirivu’, the car, driven by Praveen, went out of control and hit two persons on the roadside, before crashing into a mini truck coming from the opposite direction,” police said.  

While Jaganathan and Munis died on the spot, Praveen and Subbu succumbed to their injuries at a hospital. The two bystanders, Ilavarasi and Pongiannan, and mini-truck owner Chinnasamy (46) suffered serious injuries and were rushed to private hospitals. 

In another incident, the driver of a container truck, B Siva Kumar (58) of Tiruchy, died after the vehicle plunged into the Cauvery after crashing into sidewalls of a bridge on Coimbatore-Salem national highway, in Namakkal on Thursday. 

He had reportedly lost control of the Chennai-bound vehicle, which was owned by a private courier firm. It took around five hours to retrieve the truck and the body of the deceased using a crane.

In yet another incident, a man and his daughter were killed after their two-wheeler collided with a bus, in Palayamkottai on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as R Sathyanarayanan (39) of Athithanar colony and his daughter, Saha (6). They succumbed to injuries on the spot, said sources.  

The road on which the accident occurred was restricted for public transports and heavy vehicles, despite which, the conductor-less Thoothukudi-bound bus was plying through the stretch.
