Polur mob-lynching victim dies
Gajendran (35), the victim of a mob attack due to mistaken identity on May 9, this year, succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Chennai on Monday.

Gajendran was driving a car when he was attacked by locals near Thambukottanparai village, near Polur in Tiruvannamalai district, mistaking him and others in the car to be a gang of child-lifters.
A group of five from Chennai were on a visit to their family deity’s temple in Polur taluk. They were chased by a mob of locals on two-wheelers for more than 2 km. and thrashed those in the car. The vehicle of the Chennai group was also badly damaged by the mob.
Rukmani (65) of Old Pallavaram, Chennai, who was in the car, died on the spot. Other inmates of the car, who sustained injuries, were rushed to various hospitals by the police.
Sources said that though 45 persons were arrested in connection with the attack.
