Former union minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday tweeted, “Congratulations to MK Stalin on his first speech after being elected President of DMK. His forthright call to teach the BJP a lesson places the DMK on the frontline of those who are fighting for the idea of a liberal, democratic and inclusive India.”

Senior Congress leader and lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi also took to Twitter to not only congratulate Stalin on taking over the reins of the DMK but also to comment on the incumbent State government.

“Stalin’s time has come. He is the right man in the right party in the right state at the right time. Last six months’ survival of TN govt is on borrowed & purchased oxygen. Misgovernance rampant & rapacious corruption alleged. elections anytime would not get rulers even 5% seats,” Singhvi tweeted.

TNCC president S Thirunavukkarasar echoed the views of his party colleagues and said that Stalin has silenced people speculating about the DMK and BJP warming up to each other in the backdrop of the Dravidian party inviting saffron party for the August 30 memorial meeting.

“In his maiden speech as President, Stalin has vowed to defeat the BJP and corrupt AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. I welcome that wholeheartedly on behalf of the Congress,” he told media persons here on Wednesday.
