The facility was implemented on a pilot basis and after successful implementation, the scheme was extended to the entire state. “The facility of sending SMS was done under the IT-enabled service named ‘STAR-II’ (Simplified and Transparent Administration of Registration-II). Project STAR aimed at complete computerisation of the Registration Department and STAR-II was an advancement in the computerisation process, in which, SMS would be sent to the persons who register their lands”, said a Registration Department official.

Further, the official said that while registering online using mobile number, an OTP would be sent to the number. “SMS would be sent in 33 different stages of registration and after the final registration, SMS would be sent asking the concerned person to receive the documents,” said the official.

The official also said that after the document was handed over, the concerned individual would receive a call on the registered mobile number and the documents would be confirmed. “If there is any delay in handing over the registration document, the reason for withholding the document would also be sent via SMS,” said the official.

The SMS facility would also be beneficial for the officials as the person who registers the land below the original value of the land would receive SMS about the details of the original value of the land and the stamp duty to be paid to the government, said the official.

Moreover, the official said that if a sub-registrar refuses to register the land, the same should be conveyed to the person in writing and if the official refuses to hand over the reason in writing, a complaint can be made through a call to the toll-free number 18001025174.
