Besides, they have been slapped with a one-year suspension from staying in the college hostel. The students would not be allowed in the hostel premises during the suspension period.
The action was taken based on complaints lodged by several first-year students to the Indian Medical Council (New Delhi). The anti-ragging cell of the college has confirmed their suspension after analysing the evidences.
Suspension orders will be issued to the parents of those guilty, said the college Dean D Maruthupandian.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, he said the incident took place inside the hostel on August 30.
The CCTV footage showed the seniors indulging in ‘verbal’ ragging of the first-year students.
The latter were instructed to bow down their heads for half an hour, wear full hand formal shirts and to keep doors open through the night hours.
Among those suspended, three were from Kerala, one from Rajasthan while the rest belonged to different parts of Tamil Nadu.
