2 boys drown in stone quarry pond at Salem

According to police, S Kaushikan (15) and R Marimuthu (16), both residing in Sastri Nagar and studying in the same class, had gone to the stone quarry with three other friends on Sunday evening.

“The two boys, who did not know how to swim, ventured into deep waters and drowned. The remaining boys returned home and didn’t inform anyone about the incident out of fear,” police said.

On Monday, villagers found the bodies of the two boys floating on the surface of the waterbody and informed the Suramangalam police.

The Fire and Rescue service personnel retrieved the bodies and sent it for post-mortem examination at the Salem Government Hospital. Further police inquiries are on.
