In the latest incident on Thursday, a 35-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Krishnampathy Lake. The deceased was identified as Anand, a daily wager from RS Puram.
“Anand was unmarried and an alcoholic. His cycle was parked along the bund of the lake, where he was found dead. We suspect that he might have slipped into the lake under the influence of alcohol,” police said.
A case has been registered in this connection and investigation is on to find if there was any foul play behind his death. The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital to know the exact cause of his death.
A few days ago, a decomposed body of a youth was recovered from the same lake. Similarly, chopped and headless body parts of a woman was found in the Selvampathy lake in the July end. The decomposed head and the limbs were recovered after a few days following an intensive search. Over a month since the incident, the police are yet to make any headway in knowing the identity of the woman.
“The churidar worn by the victim and a blue ring were recovered from the body of the deceased, who appeared to be from the northern part of the country. We are checking the missing persons reported in other states too,” said police.
Residents of Veerakeralam, Seeranaickenpalayam and Sokkampudur claimed that darkness and dense bushes along the lake bunds have turned it into a hideout for anti-social elements. They sought the police to increase patrolling and enhance CCTV monitoring in the area to prevent recurring mysterious deaths in the lakes.
