7-year-old girl mauled by stray dogs in Tiruchy
In a heart-rending incident, a 7-year-old girl was mauled by pack of stray dogs in Palakkarai here on Monday night. The victim, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, has been admitted to a private hospital.

According to sources, Jeni (7), daughter of Khaja from Valluvar Nagar, was playing alone on the streets, on Monday night. Suddenly, a pack of stray dogs surrounded and started to attack her. Panicked by this, the girl shouted for help. On hearing her screams, Jeni’s parents rushed to the spot and tried to save the girl.
Before Jeni could be rescued, the dogs had bit her on the head and face. Immediately, she was admitted to a private hospital in the city.
Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital Dean G Anitha said that the GH has been receiving at least five dog bite cases on an average per day and the hospital has so far treated around 20 cases. “The number of cases has been increasing year after year. Public, who suffer dog bite, must come to the GH instantly and there is adequate stock of antibiotics.
Following the increase in the number of dog bite cases, the Corporation officials have started birth control activities in the city.
