Namadhu Amma raps saffron party on host of issues

In what may be seen as an attempt to distance itself from the BJP, a poem published in the ruling AIADMK’s party organ ‘Namadhu Amma’ on Tuesday strongly criticised the BJP-led Central government for a raft of issues, including the recent IT raids, GST, weakening of Rupee against the American dollar and the partial treatment of the Centre towards non-BJP ruled States.

The poem, written under the name of Chitraguptan, has led to speculation about the ties between the two parties.

When contacted, a State Minister, on condition of anonymity, told DTNext that the issue of opposing BJP was discussed in the cabinet meeting. According to him, a consensus was reached to oppose the BJP on issues concerning the welfare of people.

Criticising the hike in fuel price, the article stated that though there were no scams unlike in the previous UPA government, there was no favourable livelihood conditions for the people.

“The Central government refuses to understand the basic equation that if fuel prices rise, prices of other commodities too will increase,” read the poem, adding that the Centre is acting as if it does not know the sufferings of the people.

The issue of Indian currency continuously depreciating against the US Dollar was also brought up. “Due to the weakening of the Rupee, exporters are sacking the workers to maintain their profit,” the poem stated.

There is also a veiled criticism of State BJP president Tamilisai Soundarajan, who was involved in a recent clash with a research scholar, who raised slogans against her party, at the Thoothukudi airport.
