The accused Sivagami (63) of Senthil Nagar was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday. The victim, Anandhi alias Mohanavalli (39), committed suicide on Tuesday after recording her grievances in a video and an eight-page letter.
Anandhi of Ambattur got married to Devanandan, a private firm employee, last year and lived with her in-laws, Sambantham and Sivagami. Sivagami was allegedly harassing Anandhi for the last few months. On September 10, on their first wedding anniversary, Anandhi wanted to go to a temple with her husband. However, Sivagami allegedly did not allow them.
Dejected over it, Anandhi committed suicide when she was alone in the house after Devanandan and Sambantham left for Vellore to attend a wedding.
On information, Tirumullaivoyal police recovered her body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Police also recovered the video from Anandhi’s phone and also the suicide note, in which she described Sivagami as a cruel woman. She also referred to her husband and father-in-law as cowards.
