TN government introduces job-oriented courses for Class 8, 10 dropouts
In a bid to create employment opportunities for Class 8 and 10 dropouts in Chennai, Tamil Nadu government has introduced seven job-oriented courses in various sectors.

All the courses will be conducted through the Directorate of Employment and Training in Guindy under the Department of Labour and Employment’s guidance.
The courses for Class 10 students, who have passed the exams, include instrument mechanic, information and communication technology system maintenance, stenographer and secretarial assistant, computer-aided embroidery and designing and fashion designing and technology.
The duration of instrument mechanic and information and communication technology system maintenance courses will be two years while the duration will be one year for computer-aided embroidery and fashion designing and technology courses.
For Class 8 completed students, the courses include sewing technology and surface ornamentation techniques (embroidery). The duration will be one year.
Chennai Collector A Shanmugasundaram, who monitors the enrollment, said that all the selected students will be entitled to free laptops, bicycles, books, drawing instruments, free bus pass, uniforms and shoes in the course duration. In addition, the students will also get a stipend of Rs 500 per month till the end of the course.
He said the government will bear all expenses of the course, which is offered free of cost for all the students. The students could apply online and the selected candidates will be intimated through SMS and e-mail.
After the completion of courses, private sector employers will have easy access to the database and they can fill up vacancies arising in their establishments.
