Kanimozhi recalled the deceased leader’s famous words, “My daughter does not know to weep”, and added, “I am sobbing now. Dad. Don’t know how to stop.”
“Dust has settled in the book shelves in your absence,” wrote the poet-politician who has penned a poem after a long gap. She concluded with an appeal to her father to return from the “eternal sleep”.
Kanimozhi is the second person in her family to pen a poem in memory of the former DMK president.
Earlier, incumbent DMK president M K Stalin wrote an emotionally moving poem immediately after Karunanidhi’s death, asking the latter if he could call him ‘Dad’ just once. Stalin who has taken over the reins of the party after his father’s demise, had deliberately avoided addressing Karunanidhi as ‘dad’ in public. He always chose ‘thalaivar’ (leader), like most of the DMK leaders.
However, Stalin has been calculative enough to identify himself as Karunanidhi’s son since August 7, the day his father breathed his last. On Saturday, he appealed to his cadre to stand by the “Kalaignar’s son” (referring to himself) to defeat the “fascist” BJP and “corrupt” AIADMK.
